  At the house of a Bavarian Catholic priest the cook Ambrosia who is anticipating the joys of motherhood is forced to leave the field open to the younger girl Irma. Irma, in her turn, has to retreat in similar circumstances. It is not certain whether the father of the expected child is the young curate whom she has seduced or - as in Ambrosia's chase - the priest himself.
