Rockstar, Cowboy, Socialist: During Cold War times US American singer and actor Dean Reed is the superstar of the Soviet Union and worshipped throughout the Eastern Bloc and South America. He acts in 18 movies, records 13 albums, utilizing his artistic talents for political ideals. Being a pacifist until the Pinochet Coup in Chile 1973, Reed joins Arafat shortly after – dancing with Kalashnikov. Reed never exhausts to engage himself until he is found dead in an East Berlin lake in 1986. He collapsed between ideals and naivety. Reed’s life reflects the ever contemporary discourse of social engagement and individual gain. |
